A true story by Isabelle Tadmoury Florijn
I lived in the hotel nestled between the World Trader Center towers when my father was the manager of the Vista International (before it became a Marriott). Since 9/11, I've always felt that I had a special story to tell about a place where I have many happy memories. I also believe that my sister and I are the only kids to have ever "lived" in the World Trade Center. We were there from the opening of the hotel in 1981 until 1986.
My own kids are especially intrigued by my old photo albums with pictures of the WTC. Like many kids, they have so many questions about 9/11 and why it happened. They inspired me to write this book and work with a talented illustrator to get it finished.
My intent was to create a simple picture book, with real pictures inside and outside the towers that would allow parents to broach the topic of 9/11 in a gentle fashion. While the book doesn't reference the tragedy, I wrote it to help parents start a conversation about what happened. I also think that it's important to remember the place as it was, now that the Freedom tower is going up on ground zero.
